Our
Plan The exterior will be
returned to its 1870s original form by removing the collapsed rear
addition and crumbling Victorian facade. The interior will become a roomy
3 bedroom, 2 bath, 2300 sq. ft. single family home. We estimate that we
can do the whole restoration for
$100,000 and have a home that would sell
for a minimum of $70,000. To help achieve this goal we look to the fable “Stone Soup.” A copy is attached. Please take a moment to reacquaint yourself with it. While we don’t have a famine, we do have the blight of Davenport’s numerous abandoned houses. And while Gateway Redevelopment Group (GRG) can’t save all these abandoned homes it can surely become the Magic Stone to help save 822 Gaines. “By
working together, with everyone contributing what they can, a greater good
is achieved.” To
this end, this is what we have achieved for 822 so far! Gateway
Redevelopment Group (GRG) will
do the general contracting - $8,000 savings. Architectural
Rescue Shop (ARS) will supply
hardware, trim and doors - $4,000 savings. Bill Gluba of Remax
will list the home when completed with no listing fee - $2,800 savings. McCormick
Insulation will completely
insulate the house and be paid when it is sold - $2,650. Kale
Company will install Heating\Air
Conditioning and be paid when the house is sold - $10,000. Central Mechanical will
do the plumbing and be paid when the house is sold - $6,700.
Bruns Electric will
do the wiring and be paid when the house is sold - $5,000. That’s $49,150
committed so far. With the added backing of the HAPPEN program, we will
have no trouble getting full funding by the time we take title!
