The Hamburg Historic District, popularly known as “The Gold Coast,” is located on the hills above downtown Davenport. Its boundaries are 5th to 9th, Ripley to Vine Streets.  With much of it falling within the area that were part of the original 1836 plat of Davenport, it is proud to call itself “Davenport’s First Neighborhood.”  In 2011, it was designated as one of 10 Great Neighborhoods by the American Planning Association. The APA honors places of “exemplary character, quality and planning.” It is the first neighborhood in Iowa to receive this award.

The Gold Coast-Hamburg Historic District Association is comprised of owners and residents of the Hamburg Historic District. Its goals include preservation of its built heritage, collection of its historical information, and bringing its residents together to support the organization and become a more powerful voice within the community.
